Holly Homeschooling

Sharing the journey of homeschooling

About Me

Hi there! I’m Holly, the blogging mama behind Holly Homeschooling.

If you’re a parent looking for an honest space with real life encouragement and practical tips from a homeschooler in the thick of it, you’ve come to the right place. I’m a mother to four children. Each on their own unique learning journeys and I started this blog as a way to reflect and connect with like-minded parents. I write about all aspects of my homeschooling lifestyle such as curriculum decisions, day to day routines, and what I do to try avoid homeschool burnout.

Homeschooling is a fulltime pursuit and it can be tricky to have space in your schedule for anything else. There were literally times in the early days when making myself a sandwich was too much. I’m so very far from perfect but over time I’ve acquired a few ways to try help balance my roles as teacher, mother, and wife, while still having some time for myself. Most of all, I’ve learned that in order to be my best self, I need to prioritise my own learning and creative outlets.

My creative journey has led me down some interesting roads including earning a degree in Creative Writing and Social Anthropology. During the four years I was studying I went from having two children to four while homeschooling full time.

I’m also a wife to an adventurous husband whose career pursuits have seen us living in some remote places such as Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, and now in the desert of the UAE. One of the reasons we love homeschooling is because it enables us to enjoy a lifestyle that isn’t exactly run of the mill. Whether living abroad, or in our home country New Zealand, we have been able to match our homeschool routines with our lifestyle. Its a balancing act and certainly includes trial and error, but we wouldn’t trade our homeschool lifestyle for anything.

When my children are all tucked in bed, you can find me either writing on this blog, practicing my latest hobby (oil painting), building literacy or numeracy resources, or watching movies with my husband, and often with chocolate on hand.

If you’ve made it this far, I hope you’ll stick around and introduce yourself.

I’d love to hear from you!
